Looking for climbs....

Postby IndianaJonny » Sun Apr 02, 2017 3:06 pm

My friend and I will be out for some training. We are extending our trip so we can climb a bit. Prefer WI1-3/4. He has more experience than I do. We have all our on gear we are bringing but wont have access to real remote places (no ski, snoeshoes or snow machines).

Trip is April 6-12

Can you gals and guys recommend some places we can climbing that has good ice, good anchors and walkoffs. Nearby camping is a bonus but not required.

Thanks from the flat state of Indiana!

Hi Jon,

I'll be heading out to Eklutna Canyon this evening with a few friends. If the Creek is still in then that should be a good area. Not a whole lot of WI4, nor walk-offs, but if you'd like to come check it out let me know.

Last Sunday Victor Creek 3 (just north of Seward) was in beautiful condition. 30 M. of WI3 wet sticky fat ice. The river though shallow was starting to break up, I imagine at this stage you will have to rappel into the canyon or wear some waders.

That being said it is not too often you can get on some awesome ice in 38 degree temperatures.

Have fun
