Caribou Creek Climbs

Caribou Creek Climbs

Postby omega686 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 7:22 am

The river is in solid all the way to the back. Most climbs are in, stout and thin. Temps are cold but that's normal for Caribou Creek. Enjoy the season and Climb On!

Here are a couple of pictures of China Wear and Rhythm & Blues. China Wear is in pretty nicely. Rhythm & Blues is a bit thin and second pitch is not completely in with about five foot section of bare rock at top.

Great weekend in Caribou with warm temps, climbed the climb right of double take and Kantellia. Climbs are forming nicely and the river is in good. Climbs listed below,

1 - Thag has a pencil thin pillar at the bottom, but could be climbed if you want it bad enough.
2 - Robopick is thin but in
3 - Right Double Take
4 - Life After the Grave, in perfect but ran out of time
5 - Kantellia Falls

Enjoy and climb on!

Drove out yesterday afternoon to climb Kid's, maybe another route or two depending on river conditions. Joe, Heath and I made it about 5 minutes up river before it became fairly obvious the river wasn't great. Snow machines had broken through the ice in a few spots and eventually I crashed through into the water. Sunk just past my hip belt, took a few seconds until I was able to find firm ice to climb back out on. We back tracked and found stronger ice. Kid's was in but very pocketed on the first pitch, protection was tough. Placed one screw about half the way up and ran out the rest. Story of the day was running out everything, good sticks and confident climbing. Joe and I placed 5 screws all day and soloed everything but the three main pillars. The last pitch was weird sun baked ice that sounded and felt like climbing on plywood and was covered in an inch of loose sugar snow/ice. The ice after that step was better. We called it a day after rapping off the route since I was still pretty damp and it was cooling down. River access isn't going to be around much longer.
